S. Byng et M. Black, WHAT MAKES A THERAPY - SOME PARAMETERS OF THERAPEUTIC INTERVENTION INAPHASIA, European journal of disorders of communication, 30(3), 1995, pp. 303-316
It has often been assumed that detailed analyses of aphasic impairment
s would be both necessary and sufficient for the development of remedi
ation programmes. In this paper, we argue that the analysis of the imp
airment is a necessary but not sufficient precondition for therapy. Ad
equate remediation programmes require the development of an independen
t theory of therapy that provides a detailed specification of the diff
erent components of the therapeutic process. Therapy can be shown to h
ave as many interacting components as the impairment itself. In this p
aper, we try to identify some of the components of the therapy process
by comparing different therapy programmes that have been employed in
the remediation of 'mapping deficits' in agrammatism.
