To evaluate the influence of the sanding tool on wear during machining
of spruce, rotating abrasive coated disks and belt-sanders were teste
d. The sanding conditions were approximately the same. With flexible s
anding tools tool-life was shorter. There was no correlation between t
ool-life and the area of abrasives. The abrasive wore by adhesion of w
ooden dust particles. The tips were abraded. The number of active cutt
ing edges was in this case significant. By the measurement of paramete
rs for the scattered grid the number of active cutting edges was calcu
lated.
