About 400 absolute intensities have been measured for six bands(5 Sigm
a-Sigma and 1 Pi-Sigma bands) of (OCS)-O-16-C-12-S-32 in the region of
the nu(1) + nu(3) band near 3.4 mu m. The majority of these bands exh
ibit weak to very strong Herman-Wallis behavior as a result of various
anharmonic and l-type resonances between the upper levels involved. T
he individual line intensities were treated in two different ways. Fir
st, they were fitted to usual effective formulae, leading to the band
strengths and Herman-Wallis factors. Second, the line intensities in t
he five Sigma-Sigma bands were fitted to a model taking explicitly int
o account the various anharmonic and I-type resonances between the upp
er levels. This treatment showed that these resonances quantitatively
explain to a large extent the Herman-Wallis behavior observed. (C) 199
