The authors study the influence of two formulations on the stability o
f freeze-dried recombinant human alpha interferon and on the crystalli
zation of some excipients. Formulation B, containing glycine, was the
most crystalline one. It also revealed higher stability. Due to the pr
esence of dextran, formulation A was less crystalline than B. The decr
ease in IFN stability could be ascribed to the formulation's high salt
content.
