The review deals with application of TiO2 semiconductor as the catalys
t of photochemical and photoelectrochemical processes. Possible mechan
isms of these reactions are discussed. Different preparation procedure
s of TiO2 particles, layers and electrodes are summarized including th
e influences of dopping and surface sensitisation. Utilization of thes
e materials in photochemical decomposition of organic substances is re
viewed with an accentput layed on the degradation of pollutants. Probl
ems connected with application of TiO2 electrodes in solar cells are a
lso mentioned.
