Morocco has a large number of edible weeds, but seventeen are mostly e
aten by the population, collected for sale in different provinces, or
even exported. Eight weeds have edible shoots while the others have ed
ible stems, fruits, roots, flowers, or petioles. Thirteen weed species
are marketed either seasonally or throughout the year and generate mo
ney for the people. Morocco's tassel grapehyacinth bulbs and products
extracted from pennyroyal mint are exported, Further research should f
ocus on the nutritive value of these weeds and their economic role in
the country.
