Abstract
Topotactic dehydration of either the white molybdenum trioxide monohyd rate, MoO3 . H2O, or the hemihydrate, MoO3 . 1/2H(2)O, provides a conv enient synthetic route to a high-pressure phase of molybdenum trioxide , MoO3-II. The structural filiations between the various molybdenum tr ioxide and trioxide hydrate phases are delineated, and simple mechanis tic models for the transformations are proposed.
