Abstract
Problems of measuring the distances between expert estimates or attrib utes using a scale with a limited number of gradations are discussed. The probability distributions for linear and Euclidean distances are e xamined within the hypothesis of the invariance of scored estimates. S tatistical criteria for testing the significance of a relationship bet ween variables have been derived. An example of the practical utility of the obtained results is given.
