Analyses and detailed simulations of the bandwidth performance of a me
tal-semiconductor-metal photodetector (MSM-PD) array were carried out.
Based on a simple model of an array with two MSM-PDs, analytical expr
essions were derived to calculate the transfer function of the array,
from which the 3-dB bandwidth of the MSM-PD is determined. The extrins
ic responses of the 1 X 8 MSM-PD array were examined by introducing pa
ckaging elements. It is shown that the use of bonding wires with appro
priate length results in an improvement of the 3-dB bandwidth compared
