Successful management of airway wounds are gauged by the extent to whi
ch the three functions of the airway (protection, respiration, phonati
on) are preserved. A major objective during wound healing of the airwa
y is to minimize scarring and stricture formation. This article discus
ses the important concepts relating to current management strategies o
f the airway and encourages future directions of research.
