A detailed numerical model to predict the buildup of cylindrical prefo
rms in the Osprey process is described. A sensitivity study confirmed
the importance of chamber design factors such as the direction of spra
y on to the end of the preform, scanning amplitude, and scanning frequ
ency with respect to preform rotation. The nature of the scanning moti
on was also found to have a profound influence on the shape of the pre
