The p-tert-butylcalix[n] arenes (n = 4,6,7,8) and p-tert-butyldihomoox
acalix[4]arene have been separated by reverse phase liquid chromatogra
phy. Optimum conditions have been obtained on a Spherisorb ODS1, 5 mu
m C18 column by isocratic ambient elution with acetonitrile-methyl ter
t-butyl ether. Calibration plots have been obtained from purified cali
xarenes and the reliability of the method is confirmed from test mixtu
res of calixarenes of known composition.
