SE of Mont-Blanc (Western Alps, France), the Roignais-Versoyen unit is
composed of the ''flysch de Tarentaise'' and the Versoyen suite. New
structural data (stretching lineation, extensional crenulation cleavag
e, drag folds) indicate a top to the SE shearing. The Versoyen zone ca
n be interpreted as a normal ductile fault under green schist facies c
onditions. The consequences of the extensional event during the collis
ion between Europe and Apulia are discussed.
