The possibility of using the phenotypic characteristics of parents for
identifying the linkage phase in offspring is analyzed. It is demonst
rated that parents with similar phenotypes (or marker genotypes) carry
no information about the gene linkage phase in diheterozygous offspri
ng. The probability of a certain linkage phase remains the same in all
informative crossings. It depends on the model of inheritance of the
analyzed alternative trait and is similar for di- and polyallelic mark
ers. The frequencies of informative crossings and the probability of t
he linkage phase for different models of inheritance of the analyzed a
nd marker traits are estimated.
