J. Esnard et al., STREPTOMYCES COSTARICANUS SP-NOV, ISOLATED FROM NEMATODE-SUPPRESSIVE SOIL, International journal of systematic bacteriology, 45(4), 1995, pp. 775-779
A nerv bacterial strain, strain CR-43(T) (T = type strain), which was
isolated from tropical soil and was previously shown to have antinemat
odal and antibiotic properties, is described, The name Streptomyces co
staricanus is proposed for this organism, The generic placement of str
ain CR-43(T) was based on its typical morphology, its production of LL
-diaminopimelic acid, and its fatty acid composition. To clarify the t
axonomic position of strain CR-43(T), it was compared with the type st
rains of similar Streptomyces species, The results of a number of bioc
hemical tests and a profile analysis of the hydrolyzable fatty acids i
ndicated that CR-43(T) differs from previously described species, Stra
in CR-43 (= ATCC 55274 = NRRL B-16897) is the type strain of S. costar
icanus sp. nov.
