as model compounds for ribbon polymers based on the structural motif s
hown below. [GRAPHICS] The smaller molecules are soluble and readily c
haracterised but the nine ring model compound and polymers based on th
is structural motif are insoluble and intractable. Analaogues of the m
odel compounds and polymers which carry decyl substituents are soluble
up to species having about seventy rings.
