This report briefly summarises contributions made to an international
symposium held in 1993 in Bonn on the,,Economic Behaviour of (Rural) F
amily Households''. Family households were shown to be highly adaptabl
e to different and constantly evolving contextual frameworks. Househol
ds rely on complex relationships with the state, with private enterpri
ses, and their social networks in developing strategies for acquiring
and allocating resources. Better knowledge about these decision-making
processes is indispensable for the formulation of effective social, e
conomic, and regional development policies. Contributions to the sympo
sium presented diverse concepts, definitions, and typologies which-app
lied in empirical investigations - produced very interesting facts and
figures on behavioural patterns of survey households.
