The metabolism of tritiated 20-hydroxyecdysone was investigated in vit
ellogenic females of Labidura riparia. It proceeds mainly through conj
ugation reactions, in particular through acetylation at C-3 and phosph
ate ester formation at C-2. The acetylphosphate derivative was the maj
or conjugate found in different tissues. This ecdysteroid derivative a
ppears to be present as the major endogenous conjugate in hemolymph of
vitellogenic females but only as a minor one in ovaries.
