Tw. Moon et al., COMPONENTS OF THE ADRENERGIC SIGNAL-TRANSDUCTION PATHWAY IN AMERICAN EEL AND BLACK BULLHEAD LIVERS, Netherlands journal of zoology, 45(1-2), 1995, pp. 121-123
This study examined the epinephrine (EPI)-induced changes in second me
ssengers of hepatocytes isolated from two teleost fishes, the American
eel (Anguilla rostrata) and the black bullhead (Ictalurus melas). EPI
al 10 mu M stimulated the production of cAMP and IP3 in both hepatocy
tes, although the changes in cAMP were greater than those for IP3. Spe
cific binding of H-3-prazosin by purified hepatic membranes fits in wi
th the existence of alpha(1)-adrenoceprors on liver membranes from bot
h species. These data support a role for both signal transduction path
ways in the mode of action of EPI on fish liver cells.
