SYNTHESIS, STRUCTURE, AND REACTIONS OF THE FIRST STABLE DIMERCAPTOBORANE

The first stable dimercaptoborane, TbtB(SH)(2) (I), was synthesized by the sulfurization of the corresponding overcrowded lithium aryltrihyd roborate bearing a 2,4,6-tris[bis(trimethylsilyl)methyl]phenyl (Tbt) g roup. Dilithiation of 1 followed by treatment with Cp(2)TiCl(2) result ed in the isolation of a novel metallacycle, 1,3,2,4-dithiaboratitanet ane 2, as stable red crystals. Molecular structures of the novel organ oboron compounds I and 2 were both determined by X-ray crystal-lograph ic analysis.
