Treatment of CpW(CO)(3)(C=CCH(2)OMe) with Os-3(CO)(10)(NCMe)(2) in re
fluxing toluene afforded two cluster compounds (2a,b) with identical m
olecular formula CPWOs3(CO)(11)-(C=CCH(2)OMe). Both compounds contain
a butterfly skeletal arrangement and a multisite bound mu(4)-eta(2)-a
cetylide ligand. Complex 2a can be converted to 2b by relocating the C
pW-(CO)(2) fragment from the hinge site to a wingtip position. The ac
etylide migration in 2b and the kinetic studies of the conversion betw
een 2a and 2b are presented.
