Jj. Morrone et F. Ocampo, ACRORIELLUS, A NEW WEEVIL GENUS OF NORTHERN ANDEAN LISTRODERINA (INSECTA, COLEOPTERA, CURCULIONIDAE), Zoologica scripta, 24(3), 1995, pp. 257-262
Acroriellus gen. n. is endemic to higher elevations of the northern An
des, and is recognized by the following characters: elytra with three
tubercles on interval 3, one of them conical; the presence of a decliv
ital tubercle on interval 2; and the anteapical tubercle absent. Diagn
oses, descriptions and illustrations of the genus and six new species
are given, type localities are mapped, and a key to species is present
ed. A cladistic analysis using 13 characters of external morphology an
d genitalia produced three cladograms; successive weighting resulted i
n a single cladogram. Species follow the sequence A. vittetae, A. cari
natus, A. tuberculosus, A. bobi, A. similaris, and A. viridisquamosus.
The cladistic biogeographic analysis of Acroriellus, Acrorius Kirsch,
Macrostyphlus Kirsch, and Nacodius Morrone indicates the following se
quence of area-fragmentation: ([Venezuela (Colombia, northern Ecuador)
], [southern Ecuador (northwestern Peru, southern Peru)]).
