An attractive method for the fabrication of Al2O3-ZrO2 laminar composi
tes is described in this paper. The process consists in the centrifuga
tion of colloidal suspensions containing alumina and zirconia particle
s. With this procedure, it is possible to grow thin layers with differ
ent composition and smooth interfaces. The effects of the slurry comp
ositions, as well as aging times and centrifuging conditions on the mo
rphology of the laminae are discussed.
