M. Franc, PARASITISM IN SOW REDUCES THE EFFICACY OF ALIMENTATION AND FAVORS PIGLETS CONTAMINATION, Revue de Medecine Veterinaire, 146(8-9), 1995, pp. 549-554
Internal and external parasitism of pigs has many consequences on anim
al performances during all stages of production. Internal parasitism r
educes alimentation profits (despoiling, wasting, anorexia) and so, in
creases feed intake, decreases weight and number of piglets, and cause
s bad immunisation after vaccination. External parasitism (scabies) in
duces pruritus, highest energetic spendings and bad feed intake. Final
ly, the sow is cause of piglets contamination. Use of anthelmintics be
fore dropping allows better sows performances during pregnancy and lac
tation and increases piglets ones because of their non-contamination.
