The purpose of this work is to develop the model of delayed fracture i
n brittle wear and in particular to show some effects of the activatio
n energy, temperature, load, sliding velocity and size of contact on cr
ack growth. The model of a pre-existing vertical crack loaded under se
vere wear in brittle materials with small and large grain sizes is con
sidered taking into account the process zone ahead of crack. The depen
dence, characterizing influence of time and temperature on fracture is
used. The expression for K-I and K-II are found and numerical procedu
re to calculate crack growth is elaborated. The influence of different
parameters on crack length and stress intensity factors is discussed.
The limitations of the model considered are analyzed. The prospects o
f further application of the considered model of delayed fracture unde
r brittle wear are discussed.
