Abstract
Optimization of the micro-PIXE system sensitivity and overall performa nce of the analytical procedure is discussed on the basis of requireme nts on sample and experimental setup which are specific for analysis u sing focused beams. In addition to the measurement of quantitative PIX E detection limits, imaging limits for the detection of inhomogeneitie s in elemental distributions are studied using experiment simulations.
