Abstract
A containerless electromagnetic levitator has been now constructed for precise measurement of the thermophysical properties of molten silico n in the 10s Japan Microgravity Center (JAMIC) drop shaft. Precise con trol of the levitated sample position from normal gravity to micrograv ity was aimed and a compact electromagnetic levitator for demonstratin g the control technology at the gravity transition point was tested at the 1.3s HNIRI (Hokkaido National Industrial Research Institute) drop tower. The oscillation generated at the transition was completely eli minated with current control of electromagnetic coil.
