Abstract
At the steel plant of Svenskt Stal AB, Lulea, Sweden, the old ladle tr eatment station dating back to 1978 has been replaced by a twin CAS/CA S-OB facility The present article describes the design of the facility as well as the results achieved in the first 10 months. A highly auto mated twin CAS-OB facility has been integrated into the steel plant as a replacement for the existing argon stirring station. Described are the design of the facility and the operation sequence, giving consider ation to chemical heating. Plant-related and metallurgical results are presented. Since the new facility was installed, the number of heats returning to the converter as well as failing due to quality reasons h as been reduced by more than 30% and 50%, respectively, in comparison with the conventional argon stirring station.
