The solid-state structures of dimeric bis(triphenylphosphine)copper(I)
carbonate and bicarbonate have been determined by X-ray crystallograp
hy. The bicarbonate complex possesses an uncommon mode of carbonate or
carboxylate binding. That is, the two Cu(I) ions are bridged by two o
xygen atoms, one from each of two bicarbonate ligands. This bonding in
teraction is complemented by strong intermolecular hydrogen-bonding.
