Abstract
The results of experiments with isolated strips of rat portal vein, an d of 'sandwich' experiments involving strips of the portal vein or aor ta, revealed the involvement of endothelin in the development of myoge nic reactions of the vascular smooth muscle, observed on distension of the vascular wall. Released by the endothelial cells, endothelin is c apable of stimulating the contraction of these muscles.
