Abstract
A summary of the broadscale tropical circulation from May to October 1 992 in the area of analysis responsibility of the Darwin Regional/Spec ialised Meteorological Centre - that is from 70 degrees E to the date- line - is presented. Mature El Nino conditions were apparent during th e previous austral summer. Early in the summary period, most indicator s showed that El Nino began to weaken but did not fully dissipate. Wea k warm conditions lingered and were generally re-intensifying at the e nd of the period. The northern hemisphere summer monsoon produced most ly near-normal rainfall totals. Five active phases of the intraseasona l oscillation were noted, with an average periodicity at about 40 days . More than the mean number of tropical cyclones developed during the period.
