Spin-lattice relaxation time in the rotating frame, T-1 rho, is calcul
ated in quadrupole-perturbed NMR in the weak collision limit. It is as
sumed that the RF magnetic field excites only a single transition in t
he quadrupole-perturbed NMR spectrum. The results of the calculation s
how that T-1 rho, associated with the central (1/2<-->-1/2) transition
in quadrupole-perturbed NMR of half-integer spin nuclei does not refl
ect the low-frequency fluctuations of the electric field-gradient tens
er. On the other hand, the low-frequency fluctuations of the electric
held-gradient tenser give the largest contribution to T-1 rho when mea
sured on the outer[+/-I<-->+/-(I-1)] satellite transitions. (C) 1995 A
