Abstract
A novel biflavonoid named garcinianin was isolated from the roots of G arcinia kola (Guttiferae) and the structure was characterized as a C-3 /C-8''-naringenin/kaempferol dimer by spectroscopic methods. Garcinian in is present as a mixture of two atropisomers (relative ratio; 1 : 1. 2) at 25 degrees C. Garcinianin is the first example of a flavanone-fl avonol biflavonoid.
