The kinetic features of graft polymerization in the interphase boundar
y layer between a solid and liquid were studied for the process initia
ted by radicals immobilized on the solid surface. The radicals were fo
rmed in the redox reaction between copper naphthenate and adsorbed hyd
roperoxide-containing copolymer. The fraction of graft polymer in the
total polymer yield is less than unity and depends significantly on th
e mechanism of chain termination (recombination and disproportionation
), which is caused by competition between the reaction of chain transf
er to the components in bulk and the interaction of radicals immobiliz
ed on the solid surface. A mathematical model is proposed that satisfa
ctorily describes the regularities observed in the system.
