Abstract
When reinforcing cages for reinforced concrete structures are fabricat ed by robots using tack welds to improve productivity, the ductility a nd strength of the rebars are affected. This paper presents informatio n on the effect of welds on the mechanical properties of rebars under uniaxial monotonic loads. It is found in the study that welding reduce s the ductility and strength of rebars, but that annealing is not nece ssary from the standpoint of reinforced concrete design.
