A study has been made to investigate the effect of some azoheterocycli
c dyes of the type 3-arylazo 1,2,4-triazole (AT) on the corrosion of c
opper exposed to 0.5 M nitric acid solution at different temperatures
and at different AT concentrations. Using potentiodynamic polarization
and Tafel electrochemical methods, it can be shown that AT compounds
are good inhibitors of copper corrosion in HNO3 solution. The kinetic
and thermodynamic parameters of the inhibited system were determined.
The high inhibition efficiency of these compounds may be due to the ad
sorption of the additive itself and/or the adsorption of the formed Cu
(II)-AT complexes at the polarized electrode interface. Cathodic polar
ization measurements showed that AT dyes are predominantly cationic in
hibitors.
