A new high-phase-velocity leaky surface acoustic wave (SAW) mode, whic
h was predicted by computer simulation, was confirmed experimentally t
o exist on both LiTaO3 and LiNbO3. The Euler angles of the propagation
direction are (90 degrees, 90 degrees, 31 degrees) on LiTaO3 and (90
degrees, 90 degrees, 37 degrees) on LiNbO3. One-port SAW resonators we
re produced to confirm these modes. The phase velocity of the mode on
LiTaO3 (90 degrees, 90 degrees, 31 degrees) is 6250 m/s, and that on L
iNb O-3 (90 degrees, 90 degrees, 37 degrees) is 7170 m/s. The temperat
ure coefficient of the resonance frequency on LiTaO3 (90 degrees, 90 d
egrees, 31 degrees) is -30 ppm/degrees C, and that on LiNbO3 (90 degre
es, 90 degrees, 37 degrees) is -30 ppm/degrees C.
