An improved method for simultaneously determining the permeability k a
nd porosity rp of tight rock samples (k < 10(-4) mu m(2)) using unstea
dy state liquid flow through porous media (pulse technique) has been d
eveloped. This method uses a history matching routine based on the met
hod of variation of parameters for matching experimental data with sim
ulated data (data generated by the computer program). A relationship b
etween porosity and permeability has been developed which does not req
uire initial guesses for porosity and permeability to run the iteratio
n procedure. This method was applied to determine the permeability of
three tight rocks at different confining pressures and the results are
presented.
