Research, and more recently, teaching in legal psychology has grown ph
enomenally over the past twenty years. These developments are discusse
d as part of a broader international movement in social sciences and t
he law, and as one manifestation of a growing recognition within psych
ology itself of the potential and importance of ''real world'' applica
tions of the discipline. Two related styles of research are identified
and illustrated-''law-led'' and ''psychology-led'' research. Developm
ents in the teaching of legal psychology to psychologists, lawyers and
others are outlined.
