Dm. Hassel et al., ENDOSCOPY OF THE AUDITORY TUBE DIVERTICULA IN 4 HORSES WITH OTITIS-MEDIA INTERNA, Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 207(8), 1995, pp. 1081
In horses with otitis media/interna, extension of the inflammatory pro
cess to the adjacent temporohyoid joint and stylohyoid and petrous tem
poral bones results in osseous proliferation along these bones and fus
ion of the joint. Endoscopic examination of the auditory tube divertic
ula may be a more sensitive procedure than skull radiography for detec
tion of early osseous changes associated with chronic otitis media/int
erna in horses.
