Abstract
A coupling phenomenon between static and dynamic mode conversion in pr oton-exchanged (PE) LiNbO3 waveguides, called the resonant acousto-opt ic coupling, is reported for the first time. The principle underlying this phenomenon and its potential applications remain to be further in vestigated. Here we present a possible explanation of this phenomenon and apply it to the accurate measurement of the modal refractive indic es in PE LiNbO3 waveguides.
