M. Antonietti et M. Maskos, SYNTHESIS OF A NEW MICROPHASE-SEPARATED POLYMER SYSTEM BY COUNTERION COUPLING AND ITS X-RAY CHARACTERIZATION, Macromolecular rapid communications, 16(10), 1995, pp. 763-769
A new type of highly ordered, microphase-separated polymer material is
synthesized by simple ionic coupling of a commercial styrene/ethylene
oxide twoblock copolymer with a charged end group to an oppositely ch
arged polyelectrolyte by common precipitation from aqueous solution. T
he characterization of the polymer/polymer complex by small-angle X-ra
y scattering and polarization microscopy reveals that the comb-like ad
dition complexes formed by ionic grafting build up a mesophase with la
mellar morphology and a periodicity of d = 7.1 nm which is easily orie
nted in mechanic fields.
