Abstract
The exact formulas of the datum transformation using the Bursa model o f 7 transformation parameters are given. Applying the spherical approx imation principle on the datum transformation formulas is performed. T he formulas of the effect of the spherical approximation on the datum transformation are derived. The effect of the spherical approximation on the datum transformation from 3 different local datums to WGS84 is studied. Also, the effect of the spherical approximation on the datum transformation at high altitudes is shown. The results show a signific ant effect of the spherical approximation on the datum transformation.
