A case of urinary bladder eversion with prolapse in a mare is describe
d. The mare's condition was a consequence of excessive abdominal strai
ning due to recent parturition. In this case the bladder everted throu
gh the urethral opening. As the bladder was turned ''inside out,'' the
reddish mucosal surface was visible with two ureteral openings on the
dorsal surface from which urine was periodically expressed. The mare
was treated surgically by means of a dorsal urethral sphincterotomy an
d replacement of the urinary bladder into the abdomen.
