Applications of various one- and two-dimensional H-1 magic-angle spinn
ing nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR) techniques for the elucidatio
n of structural properties of hydrous silicate glasses are described.
Advantages and limitations of one-dimensional experiments [MAS and com
bined rotation and multiple-puls spectroscopy (CRAMPS)] and of two-dim
ensional approaches (spin-exchange experiments, ''MAS-CRAMPS'' correla
tion plus extended versions) are discussed. The various H-1 MAS NMR te
chniques are illustrated by practical examples of spectra obtained fro
m a hydrous silicate glass of Na2O . 4SiO(2) . 0.7H(2)O composition.
