The correction of asymmetries of the face is one of the most difficult
procedures in reconstructive facial surgery. In a first step the bony
structures have to be corrected, and in a second step the soft tissue
parts have to be augmented. There are many possible ways of filling v
olume defects in soft tissue. We describe free fat transplantation and
the findings on longterm clinical and sonographic follow-up. The resu
lts show that there is resorption of the free fat transplant for up to
1 year. In suitable cases this method can be recommended.
