High-spin states in W-182 have been studied using the Yb-176(C-13,alph
a 3n) reaction at a beam energy of 65 MeV. The ground state band is fo
und to backbend clearly at HBARw approximate to 0.38 MeV and to gain m
ore than 6 units of angular momentum. In addition, the K-pi = 10(+) ba
nd is observed to decay into the g.s.b. 16(+) state where the yrast se
quence backbends. Three-band mixing calculations between the g-, s- an
d K-pi = 10(+) bands have been performed to interpret the backbend. Co
mparison of the experimental g(K) factors with predictions confirms co
nfiguration assignments and allows new assignments for some of the ban
ds, The level scheme of high-K four-quasiparticle states recently repo
rted is corrected, and the intrinsic structures are discussed in more
detail.
