Abstract
beta-Keto phenylsulfones bearing a phenyl group linked to the carbonyl unit are efficiently desulfonylated using Bu(3)SnCl/NaBH3CH in t-BuOH at reflux. A 2 equivalent excess of the reducing couple and a catalyt ic amount of AIBN (0.1 equiv.) are required. An ample variety of funct ionalities remain unaffected under these conditions.
