Abstract
It has been shown earlier that the launching of gap solitons into nonu niform nonlinear Bragg gratings can be significantly easier than for u niform nonlinear Bragg gratings. In this paper we examine a variety of simple nonuniform Bragg gratings and compare their suitability for th e launching process, by studying the positions of the zeros of the ref lection spectrum.
