A mycological analysis of soil and litter was carried out on a Malaysi
an Dipterocarp forest. Results show that the number of propagules per
gramme is 3 times higher in litter. Fifty-seven taxa were found in the
whole. Isolates mainly belong to Trichoderma, Gliocladium and Penicil
lium. P. simplicissimum and T. harzianum were the major species isolat
ed from soil and litter at 25 degrees C but with higher relative densi
ty of P. simplicissimum in the soil. Gliocladium viride and basidiomyc
etes were dominant species when incubation was performed at 35 degrees
C in litter. The diversity in species isolated was relatively low.
